Effect of aminoethoxyvinilglycine (AVG) on preharvest fruit drop and maturity of apples Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Amarante,Cassandro Vidal Talamini do; Simioni,Anderson; Megguer,Clarice Aparecida; Blum,Luiz Eduardo Bassay.
Apple trees cultivars Gala and Fuji were sprayed four weeks before commercial harvest with aminoethoxyvinilglycine (AVG), at doses of 0, 125, or 250 mg L-1, and assessed for preharvest fruit drop, fruit growth, and maturation on tree. In 'Gala', 64 days after AVG spraying, fruit drop for control treatment was 85%, and AVG (at 125 and 250 mg L-1) reduced it to 10%. In 'Fuji', 64 days after AVG spraying, fruit drop for control was 6%, while treatments with AVG (at 125 and 250 mg L-1) increased fruit drop to 10%. AVG was a powerful retardant of fruit maturation for 'Gala' but not for 'Fuji'. In 'Gala', the most affected attribute was the skin background color, followed, in decreasing order, by soluble solids content, the starch index, skin red color, the...

Effects of fruiting spur thinning on fruit quality and vegetative growth of sweet cherry (Prunus avium) Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Ayala,Marlene; Andrade,María P.
High density sweet cherry (Prunus avium) orchards using highly productive cultivars and dwarfing rootstocks usually require crop load regulation to achieve high quality fruit. Among the strategies used to reduce crop load in highly productive combinations, fruiting spur thinning (FST, spur extinction) before budbreak has been suggested to be an effective way to improve fruit size. Currently, there is little information about the effect of spur thinning on sweet cherry orchards using self-fertile cultivars grafted on vigorous rootstocks. For this reason, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of manual FST on fruit quality and vegetative growth of the cultivar 'Lapins' grafted on the rootstock 'Mazzard F-12/L with 0, 50 and 75% spur...

ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to evaluate the interaction between maturity stages and temperature on fruit quality of ‘Guarani’ blackberries stored under controlled atmosphere (CA). The experiment was conducted in a factorial scheme (2x2), evaluating two ripening stages (E1: red-color and E2: black-color of fruits) and two temperatures (1°C and 5°C). The fruit were stored in CA (10.0kPa O2+15.0kPa CO2) and 98±1% of relative humidity (RH). Results showed that the principal component 1 (PC I) and principal component 2 (PC II) corresponded to 92.84% of the overall variation of the evaluated variables. Harvest should not be performed in the early maturity stage, because ‘Guarani’ blackberries do not develop all quality of consumer. ‘Guarani’...

A multivariate approach to explore the genetic variability in the F2 segregating population of a tomato second cycle hybrid JBAG
Cabodevila,V.G; Picardi,L.A; Pratta,G.R.
Segregating progeny from the tomato Second Cycle Hybrids (SCH) that were obtained from crossing RIL (Recombinant Inbred Lines) allows the detection of new genetic combinations that could increase genetic variability in F2 populations. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate eleven tomato quality traits in a segregating F2 population obtained from a SCH and, then, to characterize the molecular diversity by six AFLP (Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism) primer combinations. Different multivariate analyses were used to assess the degree of concordance among these two approaches to detect genetic variability. Sixty-nine F2 plants were obtained by selfing the SCH (ToUNR18xToUNR1). The parental RIL were derived from an interspecific cross between...

Cold storage effects on oxidative stress of Red Globe table grape rachises Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Campos-Vargas,Reinaldo; Zamora,Pablo; Contreras,Rodrigo; Köhler,Hans; Zúñiga,Gustavo E; Pérez-Donoso,Alonso; Defilippi,Bruno G.
Table grape (Vitis vinifera L.) quality includes the condition of both the berries and the rachis. In the present report, physiological parameters of Red Globe rachises from fully elongated inflorescences (RFEI) and from mature clusters were studied after storage at 0 or 20 °C for different durations. To understand changes in rachis physiology as a result of changes in temperature conditions and storage time, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) were measured. In addition, hydrogen peroxide content, membrane lipoperoxidation (TBARS), total phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity (FRAP) were assayed. TBARS was higher in mature rachises than in RFEI. This parameter remained constant throughout...
